Current Context: According to SIPRI Yearbook 2026, India’s nuclear arsenal has increased to an estimated 190 warheads.
ABOUT THE REPORT
- The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), in its Yearbook 2026, estimated that India’s nuclear arsenal increased from 180 warheads in 2025 to 190 warheads in 2026.
- India now possesses a larger estimated nuclear arsenal than Pakistan, which is estimated to have around 170 warheads.
- India’s nuclear strategy shift: Gradually shifting towards developing longer-range weapon systems, with increasing attention to strategic challenges posed by China

Current Context: India remained the world’s fifth-largest military spender in 2025 with expenditure of $92.1 billion, and was the world’s second-largest importer of major arms during 2021-25.

Current Context: The Union Home Minister is going to launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) in New Delhi.

- Land Port Management System (LPMS) is a comprehensive digital platform for managing activities at land ports and Integrated Check Posts.
- It will integrate various stakeholders involved in cross-border trade, immigration, customs, quarantine, and security clearance on a single digital platform.
- Features: Real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information, end-to-end digital workflows for cargo and passenger processing, single-window clearances

- Established under the Land Ports Authority of India Act, 2010.

5. KIRTHAI-II HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT REVIVED
Current Context: The government revived the long-stalled Kirthai Stage II Hydroelectric Project on the Chenab river in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

- The Kirthai-II Hydroelectric Project in Jammu & Kashmir has been revived after years of delay, marking a significant step towards enhancing the region’s renewable energy capacity and hydropower generation.
- A run-of-the-river hydropower project proposed on the Chenab River.
- Located in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
- Planned installed capacity: 930 MW.
- Developed as part of the broader hydropower development programme in the Chenab basin
- Developed by: Chenab Valley Power Projects
- Ownership: NHPC (51%), Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development (49%)

6. e-JAGRITI PLATFORM WINS SILVER AWARD AT NAeG 2026
Current Context: The e-Jagriti Platform received the Silver Award at the National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) 2026 under the category of digital transformation and citizen-centric governance.
ABOUT e-JAGRITI PLATFORM
- e-Jagriti (Electronic Jagriti) is an integrated digital platform developed for the consumer dispute redressal system in India.
- It aims to digitize and modernize the functioning of Consumer Commissions across the country.
- Launched by: Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution
- Launch date: 1 January 2025
- Features: Multilingual interfaces, AI-powered smart search, voice-to-text conversion using AI/ML technology, unified four legacy applications into single AI-enabled paperless platform
- Benefits: NRIs and citizens can file and manage cases from any location, consumers can file complaints, track case statuses, access judgments online

7. ZOJILA TUNNEL NEARS BREAKTHROUGH
Current Context: The Zojila Tunnel, a 13.153-kilometre road tunnel under construction in the Himalayas, is scheduled for final breakthrough on 9 June 2026.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
- The Zojila Tunnel Project is nearing a major construction milestone, with tunnel excavation approaching the final breakthrough stage.
- The tunnel is being constructed beneath the Zoji La Pass on the Srinagar-Leh Highway (NH-1).
- Once completed, it will become India’s longest road tunnel and provide all-weather connectivity between Kashmir Valley and Ladakh.
- Significance: World’s longest single-tube bi-directional road tunnel at such high altitude; reduces travel time from ~3.5 hours to 15-20 minutes
- Altitude: ~11,578 feet (nearly 3,000 metres) above sea level
- Full operational completion: February 2028
- Connects: Baltal near Sonamarg (J&K) to Meenamarg (Drass-Kargil region, Ladakh)
- Work began: October 2020

- Zoji La Pass is located in the Great Himalayan Range (Himadri).
- It serves as a natural gateway between the Kashmir Valley and the Trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh.
- Sonamarg – Known as the “Meadow of Gold”.

Current Context: India hosted the inaugural World Yogasana Championship from 4-8 June 2026 at TransStadia, Ahmedabad, topping the medal table with 114 medals (102 gold).

Current Context: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the state’s first government-run women’s de-addiction and rehabilitation centre, ‘Nav Jeevan’, at Mashobra near Shimla.

- Objective: Not just to treat addiction but to help women rebuild their lives with dignity and confidence
- Type: Himachal’s first government-run women’s de-addiction and rehabilitation centre
