5. LOWER KOPILI HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT
Current Context: The Prime Minister recently virtually inaugurated the 120 MW Lower Kopili Hydroelectric Project in Assam.

- Type: Run-of-river hydropower project
- Location: Kopili River basin, Assam
- Situated in West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao (North Cachar Hills) Autonomous District Council areas.

- Funding : Supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Assam Power Sector Investment Program.
ABOUT KOPILI RIVER
- An interstate river in Northeast India flowing through Meghalaya and Assam.
- Largest south-bank tributary of the Brahmaputra in Assam.
- Origin: Meghalaya Plateau.
- Flows through Karbi Anglong and Nagaon districts before joining the Brahmaputra River.

6. CENTRAL ADOPTION RESOURCE AUTHORITY (CARA)
Current Context: The Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) issued nationwide directions to strengthen adoption procedures, safeguard records and protect the identity of adopted children.
ABOUT CENTRAL ADOPTION RESOURCE AUTHORITY
- A statutory body under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
- It became a statutory authority through Section 68 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
- Headquarters: New Delhi.
MANDATE
- Deals with the adoption of orphaned, abandoned and surrendered children through recognised adoption agencies.
- Designated as the Central Authority for inter-country adoption under the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption, 1993 (ratified by India in 2003).

- Promote in-country adoptions and facilitate inter-state adoptions.
- Regulate inter-country adoption procedures.
- Frame regulations and guidelines related to adoption.
- Coordinate with state and district-level adoption authorities.

7. NATIONAL MINERAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (NMDC)
Current Context: Navratna NMDC became the first mining company in India to produce 50 million tonnes of iron ore in a single financial year.

- India’s largest producer of iron ore.
