ABOUT CODEX ALIMENTARIUS COMMISSION

• The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) is the international food standards-setting body.
• It was established jointly by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in May 1963.
• The term “Codex Alimentarius” is Latin for “Food Code”.
• Headquarters (Codex Secretariat): FAO Headquarters, Rome, Italy.

Current Context: Jagannath Rath Yatra was celebrated on 16 July 2026 in Puri, Odisha.

ABOUT JAGANNATH RATH YATRA

• Jagannath Rath Yatra, also known as the Chariot Festival or Ghosha Yatra, is an annual Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra.
• It is celebrated on Ashadha Shukla Dwitiya (second day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu month of Ashadha).
• The festival symbolizes the journey of the deities from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, believed to be the abode of their aunt.

Current Context: Harela festival celebrated in Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region to mark the beginning of holy month of Sawan.

• Harela is one of the most important folk festivals of Uttarakhand, especially in the Kumaon region.
• The word “Harela” means “Day of Green” or “Greenery”.
• It is an agricultural, cultural, and environmental festival celebrating the arrival of the monsoon and the beginning of the sowing season.

• Geographical Indication (GI) is an intellectual property right used to identify products that originate from a specific geographical region and possess qualities, reputation, or characteristics essentially attributable to that origin.
• In India, GI tags are governed by the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999. The Act came into force on 15 September 2003.
• The GI Registry is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

7. UTTAR PRADESH REPORTS HIGHEST CYBER FRAUD COMPLAINTS

Current Context: Cyber fraud complaints crossed 12.7 lakh in Jan-Jun 2026 with losses exceeding ₹10,178 crore.

KEY STATISTICS

• According to data reviewed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of cyber fraud complaints in India during January-June 2026, highlighting the rapid rise in digital financial crimes across the country.

• Total cyber fraud complaints (Jan-June 2026): Over 71 lakh.
• Total reported financial loss: More than ₹10,178 crore.
