2. NATIONAL FAMILY HEALTH SURVEY-6 (NFHS-6) RELEASED

Current Context: The Government of India released the National Family Health Survey-6 (NFHS-6), providing comprehensive data on population, health, nutrition, fertility, and family welfare indicators across the country.

  • Public healthcare trust: 95.6% of childhood immunizations through public clinics/government hospitals
  • Maternal and child healthcare improved significantly – institutional deliveries increased to 6%, mothers receiving at least four ANC visits rose to 65.2%, and full immunisation among children (12-23 months) increased to 87.1%.
  • Child nutrition indicators improved – stunting declined from 5% to 29.3% and severe wasting from 7.7% to 5.2%, while India’s Total Fertility Rate (TFR) remained stable at 2.0, near replacement level.
  • Health insurance coverage increased from 0% to 60.2%, and contraceptive prevalence rose to 69.1%, indicating better health protection and family planning access.
  • Lifestyle diseases emerged as a concern, with rising obesity and high blood sugar levels among adults, highlighting a growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

3. UNCLAIMED ASSETS PORTAL LAUNCHED

Current Context: The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance launched the Unclaimed Assets Portal.

  • A digital platform designed to help individuals search and claim unclaimed financial assets belonging to themselves or their family members.
  • Purpose: Common landing portal for unclaimed financial assets (unclaimed bank deposits, insurance claims, shares, dividends, mutual funds)
  • Aims to improve transparency, accessibility, and ease of recovery of dormant assets.
  • Developed by: Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance
  • Collaboration with: Public Sector Bank Alliance (PSBA) – centralized umbrella organisation jointly promoted by 12 public sector banks

4. SAMADHAN DIDI – AI-POWERED CHATBOT FOR GRIEVANCES

Current Context: The Centre unveiled an AI-enabled Chabot named Samadhan Didi to help citizens raise grievances against government departments online.

  • An Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based chatbot developed to assist citizens in registering, tracking, and resolving grievances. Provides automated, multilingual, and interactive support for users.
  • Aims to make grievance redressal systems more accessible, transparent, and efficient.
  • Key feature: Citizens can register grievances by describing concerns in plain, everyday language without identifying ministry, department, or category
  • Developed by: Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) in collaboration with Bhashini (AI-powered tool)
  • Integrated with: Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS)
  • Languages supported: All 22 scheduled Indian languages (more regional languages to be added)
  • CPGRAMS grievance resolution timeline: Within maximum period of 21 days, appeal facility available if citizen not satisfied

  • CPGRAMS (Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System) was launched in 2007 by the Government of India as an online platform for public grievance redressal.

About BHASHINI

  • BHASHINI (BHASHa INterface for India) is an AI-powered language translation and language technology platform developed by the Government of India.
  • Launched under the Digital India Programme.

Current Context: India launched the Logistics Port Performance Index (LPPI) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Mumbai.

  • LPPI is a national benchmarking mechanism developed under the Sagar Aankalan Framework.
  • It is designed to assess and improve the operational performance of Indian ports.
  • It aims to promote continuous improvement, efficiency, and data-driven port governance.

  • Key Performance Indicators: Cargo handled, vessel turnaround time, berth idle time, pre-berthing waiting time, container dwell time, ship berth day output
