1. OLYMPIC DAY 2026
Current Context: Olympic Day 2026 is observed worldwide on 23 June to commemorate the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and to promote participation in sports, physical activity, and Olympic values.
ABOUT THE DAY
- It commemorates the establishment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 23 June 1894 in Paris.
- The modern Olympic Movement was revived by Pierre de Coubertin.
- The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896.
- Olympic Day was first celebrated on 23 June 1948
- 2026 Theme: “You Can Do This!” (Under Let’s Move campaign, empowering young people to make their first move)
About IOC
- Established: 23 June 1894
- Headquarters: Lausanne
- The Olympic symbol consists of five interlocking rings. It was designed by Pierre de Coubertin in 1913 and first appeared on the Olympic flag in 1920.
- Blue, Yellow, Black, Green, and Red Olympic rings on a White background were chosen because at least one of these colours appeared in every national flag of the world when the symbol was created.

2.CENTRE REAFFIRMS ARTICLE 371 SAFEGUARDS FOR LADAKH
Current Context: The Central Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing constitutional safeguards for Ladakh under an Article 371-like framework, while continuing discussions with Ladakh representatives on the exact scope and legal structure of these protections.
ABOUT THE DISCUSSIONS
- The proposal emerged from talks between the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and representatives of the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA).
- The Centre has agreed in principle to provide constitutional safeguards on the lines of Articles 371A, 371F and 371G, which currently apply to Nagaland, Sikkim and Mizoram respectively
- Focus: Customized governance model ensuring local participation, cultural protection, land rights, and administrative accountability.
- Options: Elected UT-level body with limited powers, Sixth Schedule demand under consideration but not accepted.
About SPECIAL PROVISIONS FOR CERTAIN STATES
- Article 371 to Article 371J of the Indian Constitution provide special provisions to certain states to address their unique historical, cultural, social, economic, and administrative needs.
- These provisions were added through various Constitutional Amendments.
- They aim to preserve regional identity and ensure balanced development.

3. ABHIGYAN APP LAUNCHED
Current Context: The Union Home Minister launched the Abhigyan app in New Delhi.
ABOUT ABHIGYAN APP
- Abhigyan is a mobile application developed by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
- It enables police personnel to instantly verify the identity of suspects using fingerprints in the field.
- The app is part of India’s efforts to modernize policing through technology and digital criminal databases.
- Real-Time Fingerprint Identification using smartphones and portable fingerprint scanners.
- Direct integration with the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS)
- Provides immediate access to a suspect’s criminal record and identity details.
- Capability: Fingerprint matching with NAFIS database in 35 seconds

4. ENERGY TRANSITION INDEX 2026: INDIA RANKS 70TH
Current Context: India moved up two places to rank 70th in the Energy Transition Index (ETI) 2026.

- Global energy investment reached USD 3.3 trillion in 2025.
- Renewables and nuclear together generated about 42% of global electricity.
- Transition readiness declined globally for the first time in more than a decade due to policy uncertainty, financing constraints, and geopolitical tensions.
- Evaluates: Countries on energy security, sustainability, and equity, along with policy, financial, and infrastructure readiness
- Score components: System performance (60%) + Transition readiness (40%)
- Top 3: Sweden, Finland, Denmark (retained positions)

5. PM MODI COMMISSIONS INS AGRAY, INS DUNAGIRI AND INS SANSHODHAK
Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned three indigenously designed and built naval ships – INS Agray, INS Dunagiri, and INS Sanshodhak – at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata.

8. SHIKARI DEVI TEMPLE: A JOURNEY TO DIVINE BLESSINGS AND UNFORGETTABLE VIEWS
Current Context: Shikari Devi Temple, perched at an altitude of nearly 11,000 feet in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district.
ABOUT THE TEMPLE
- Located in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, near Janjheli and Karsog valley.
- Situated at an altitude of around 2,850-3,359 metres (approx.) in the Shikari Devi Wildlife Sanctuary.
- Dedicated to Goddess Shikari Devi (form of Durga – “Goddess of Hunters”).
- Unique feature: The temple has no roof (legend says attempts to build one failed; goddess chose to remain under open sky)
- Mythological association: Believed to have been built by the Pandavas during their exile
