1. INTERNATIONAL ALBINISM AWARENESS DAY 2026
Current Context: International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD) is observed annually on 13 June to raise awareness about the rights, dignity, and challenges faced by persons with albinism worldwide.
ABOUT THE DAY
- Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
- First observed in 2015.
- Theme 2026: “Proudly in my skin – celebrating all skin tones”
- What is albinism?Rare, non-contagious, genetically inherited difference present at birth, results in lack of pigmentation (melanin) in hair, skin, and eyes. Almost all people with albinism are visually impaired and prone to developing skin cancer.

2. WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY 2026
Current Context: World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is observed annually on 14 June to thank voluntary blood donors and raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products worldwide.
ABOUT THE DAY
- Established by the World Health Organization and its partners.
- First observed in 2004.
- Officially endorsed by the World Health Assembly in 2005
- Theme 2026: “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”
- The date marks the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner (1868-1943). Landsteiner discovered the ABO blood group system and received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (1930).

3. WORLD BANK PROJECTS INDIA GDP GROWTH AT 6.6% FOR FY 2026-27
Current Context: India’s GDP growth has been projected at 6.6% for fiscal year 2026-27 by the World Bank in its Global Economic Prospects report released on 11 June 2026.
ABOUT THE PROJECTIONS
- Despite a moderation from FY26 growth levels, India is expected to remain among the fastest-growing major economies in the world
- FY 2026-27 growth: 6.6% (moderated due to higher energy prices and rising input costs)
- FY 2025-26 growth: Estimated 7.7%
- Global growth (2026): 2.5% (weakest expansion since COVID-19 pandemic)

4. UNION MINISTER SHOBHA KARANDLAJE REPRESENTS INDIA AT 114TH ILO CONFERENCE
Current Context: Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, led India’s delegation at the 114th International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, Switzerland.
ABOUT ILC
- The International Labour Conference is the highest decision-making body of the International Labour Organization. Often referred to as the “World Parliament of Labour.” Held annually in Geneva, Switzerland.
- The 114th International Labour Conference served as a global platform for discussing labour rights, employment, social protection, and the future of work, with India showcasing its recent labour and social security reforms.
- India’s focus areas: Inclusive and sustainable economic growth, gender equality in workforce, social dialogue, skill development, digital transformation in labour and employment services
- Bilateral meetings: Nepal (Neighbourhood First policy), Angola, Mauritius (digital public infrastructure for labour services), France, UK, South Korea, US, Canada (legal migration pathways, mutual recognition of skills)

5. CREDIT GUARANTEE SCHEME FOR MICROFINANCE INSTITUTIONS-2.0 EXTENDED
Current Context: The Government of India has approved extension in validity of the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Microfinance Institutions-2.0 (CGSMFI-2.0) up to 31 August 2026.
ABOUT THE SCHEME
- CGSMFI 2.0 is a government-backed credit guarantee scheme designed to provide guarantees on loans extended by eligible lending institutions to Microfinance Institutions (MFIs).
- It reduces the credit risk of lenders and encourages them to extend more loans to the microfinance sector. Implemented under the aegis of the Ministry of Finance
- Implementing agency: National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Limited (NCGTC)
- Guarantee coverage: 80% of amount in default for small, 75% for medium, 70% for large NBFC-MFIs/MFIs
- The Credit Guarantee Scheme for Microfinance Institutions (CGSMFI) was first launched on 28 June 2021 to support the microfinance sector during the COVID-19 pandemic and improve credit flow to small borrowers.
- The revamped CGSMFI 2.0 was launched by the Government of India on 20 March 2026 with a guarantee corpus of ₹20,000 crore

6. OILSEEDS KISAAN MITRA: INDIA’S FIRST WHATSAPP AI ADVISORY FOR OILSEED CULTIVATION
Current Context: ICAR has launched ‘Oilseeds Kisaan Mitra’, India’s first nationwide WhatsApp-based AI advisory service for oilseed farmers.
ABOUT THE SERVICE
- It provides free, research-based agricultural guidance in multiple Indian languages directly through WhatsApp. Developed by ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad.
- Crops covered: Groundnut, soybean, mustard, sunflower, sesame, niger, other important oilseed crops
About ICAR
- The Indian Council of Agricultural Research is India’s apex body for coordinating, guiding, and managing research, education, and extension activities in agriculture and allied sectors.
- It is an autonomous organization under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
- Established on 16 July 1929.
- Originally known as the Imperial Council of Agricultural Research. Renamed as the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) after Independence in 1947.

7. RISA: TIMELESS TRIBAL – PREMIUM BRAND FOR TRIBAL PRODUCTS
Current Context: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, through TRIFED, unveiled a dedicated premium signature brand, ‘RISA – Timeless Tribal’.
ABOUT RISA
- “RISA: Timeless Tribal” is a premium brand aimed at showcasing and marketing high-quality tribal products in domestic and international markets.
- Risa is a traditional handwoven cloth worn by women in Tripura as part of the state’s traditional attire.
- The initiative seeks to enhance the income of tribal artisans and producers while promoting India’s rich tribal heritage and craftsmanship.
- Tribal textile traditions identified (Phase I): Eri Silk and Muga Silk (Assam), Santal Cotton (Jharkhand), Changpa Pashmina (Ladakh), Kotpad Cotton and Dongria Embroidery (Odisha), Toda Embroidery (Tamil Nadu)
- Tribal handicrafts (Phase I): Longpi Pottery (Manipur), Turtuk Brass Cutlery (Ladakh), Dokhra Art (Chhattisgarh)
About TRIFED
- The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India is the national-level apex organization working for the socio-economic development of tribal communities through marketing support, value addition, and capacity building.
- It functions under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
- Established on 6 August 1987 under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 1984.

8. OPERATION MILAP: GUJARAT POLICE TRACE 1,470 MISSING PERSONS

9. KERALA REPORTS FRESH NIPAH VIRUS CASE
Current Context: Kerala has intensified surveillance following a suspected Nipah virus case in Kozhikode district.
ABOUT NIPAH VIRUS
- A fresh case of Nipah Virus Infection has been reported in Kerala, prompting health authorities to intensify surveillance, contact tracing, and containment measures.
- Kerala has witnessed multiple Nipah outbreaks since 2018, making it India’s most affected state by the disease.
- It belongs to the genus Henipavirus and family Paramyxoviridae.
- First identified in 1998-99 during an outbreak in Sungai Nipah, Malaysia from which it derives its name.
- The first recorded outbreak of Nipah Virus (NiV) in India occurred in 2001 in Siliguri.
- Type: Zoonotic disease transmitted mainly by fruit bats (can spread between humans)
- Symptoms: Fever, headache, respiratory problems, encephalitis in severe cases
- Prevention: Maintaining hygiene, avoiding contact with bats and sick animals, following infection-control measures

10. GHARIALS: 31 HATCHLINGS RELEASED IN GANDAK RIVER, BIHAR
Current Context: 31 gharial hatchlings have been released in the Bagaha area along the Gandak River in Bihar.
ABOUT GHARIAL
- The Bihar Forest Department released 31 gharial hatchlings into the Gandak River as part of ongoing conservation efforts to revive the critically endangered gharial population.
- Type: Freshwater crocodile (Order Crocodylia, Family Crocodylidae)
- Name origin: Hindi word ‘ghara’ (pot or vessel) – refers to bulbous snout tip of adult males resembling an inverted pot.
- Habitat: Deep, clear, freshwater rivers with sandy banks, primarily within Himalayan river systems
- Major population: Chambal River (largest wild population), Girwa River (India), Rapti-Naryani River (Nepal)
- Gharial reserves in India: Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan
- Diet: Predominantly piscivorous (fish-eating)
- Reproduction: Mate during November–January; lay eggs March-May
- Conservation Status:
- IUCN Red List: Critically Endangered
- CITES: Appendix I
