2. INDORE TO HOST BRICS AGRICULTURE MEETING 2026

Current Context: Indore will host a five-day BRICS agriculture meeting from 9-13 June 2026 under India’s presidency, focusing on food security, climate-resilient agriculture, and smart farming.

  • Indore will host the BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting 2026, bringing together member countries to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, food security, rural development, and agri-technology.
  • The meeting is part of India’s engagement with BRICS to promote sustainable and resilient agricultural systems.
  • Key discussion areas: Food security, farmer welfare, nutrition security, climate-resilient agriculture, smart farming technologies, agricultural research, digital agriculture, AI, robotics, international agricultural trade, supply chain strengthening

Current Context: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare commenced nationwide celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of PMSMA under the theme “10 Years of PMSMA – A Decade of Care”.

ABOUT PMSMA

  • Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) is a flagship maternal healthcare initiative of the Government of India.
  • Objective: Reduce preventable maternal and infant deaths through early identification and management of high-risk pregnancies
  • Launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 9 June 2016.
  • Provides fixed-day, free, assured, and quality antenatal care (ANC) services to pregnant women across the country.
  • Conducted on the 9th of every month at designated government health facilities.
  • Provides free comprehensive antenatal check-ups to all pregnant women.
  • Special focus on women in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy.
