1. UN’S FIRST SCIENTIFIC REPORT ON AI
Current Context: UN’s Independent International Scientific Panel on AI released its first-ever preliminary report on AI governance.
ABOUT THE REPORT
- The report provides an evidence-based assessment of AI’s opportunities, risks, and governance to support informed global policymaking.
- It is the first scientific report commissioned by the United Nations to assess the prospects, risks, and governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- Purpose: To provide scientific evidence and policy guidance for governments and international institutions. The report does not propose new laws or regulations.
KEY FINDINGS
- AI capabilities are advancing at an unprecedented pace. Governments and regulatory institutions are struggling to keep pace with AI innovation.
- Existing AI governance frameworks remain fragmented and insufficient.
- Delaying action until complete scientific certainty is achieved could expose societies to significant risks.
- AI offers transformative opportunities but also poses challenges to security, democracy, employment, and human rights.
Global “Compute Divide”:
- USA:75% of computing resources, 59 notable AI models

2. PRADHAN MANTRI FORMALISATION OF MICRO FOOD PROCESSING ENTERPRISES (PMFME) SCHEME
Current Context: Central Government is considering extending the PMFME Scheme.
ABOUT PMFME SCHEME
- The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme continues to strengthen India’s micro food processing sector through financial assistance, skill development, branding, and infrastructure support.
- Launched: 29 June 2020
- Ministry: Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI)
- Type: Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan
- Implementation Period: Initially approved for 2020-21 to 2024-25 with continued implementation thereafter.
Key Features:
- Individual Micro Enterprises:Credit-linked capital subsidy 35% (max ₹10 lakh/unit)
- SHGs:Seed capital of ₹40,000 per member (max ₹4 lakh per SHG Federation)
- Common Infrastructure:Credit-linked capital subsidy 35% (max ₹3 crore)
- Branding & Marketing:Grant up to 50% for groups
- Capacity Building:Entrepreneurship Development Skilling (EDP+) programmes

3. THE SHANTI VISION FOR UNSC CAMPAIGN
Current Context: External Affairs Minister has launched the “Shanti (Peace) Vision for UNSC” Campaign as part of its candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2028-29 term.
ABOUT SHANTI VISION
- The campaign highlights India’s commitment to peace, multilateralism, sustainable development, and Global South representation.
- It reflects India’s longstanding commitment to “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The World is One Family) and reformed multilateralism.
- SHANTI represents the key pillars of India’s vision: Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust and Integrity.
KEY PRIORITIES
- Reformed Multilateralism to make global institutions more representative and effective.
- Counter-terrorism with zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms.
- Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding, drawing on India’s long-standing contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.
- India is also a member of the G4 (India, Brazil, Germany, and Japan), which advocates expansion of the UNSC in both permanent and non-permanent categories.
ABOUT UNSC
- The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN). It was established under the UN Charter in 1945.
- It has the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.
- Unlike most UN bodies, UNSC resolutions adopted under Chapter VII of the UN Charter are legally binding on all UN Member States.

4. INDIA TO HOST 5TH BIMSTEC SECURITY SUMMIT
Current Context: India will host the 5th BIMSTEC National Security Advisers’ Meeting in New Delhi.
The BIMSTEC Security Summit is a high-level platform for cooperation among BIMSTEC member states on regional security issues.
- It focuses on enhancing collaboration against both traditional and non-traditional security challenges.
- The summit promotes information sharing, capacity building, joint training, and coordinated action among member countries.
ABOUT BIMSTEC
- Full Form: Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation
- Established: 6 June 1997 through the Bangkok Declaration.
- Headquarters: Dhaka, Bangladesh
- Secretary-General: Rotates among member states (appointed for a fixed term).

Current Context: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with CERT-In, CSIRT-Fin, and SISA, released the 2nd edition of the Digital Threat Report 2025-26.
ABOUT THE REPORT
- The report provides a comprehensive assessment of evolving cyber threats and strategies to strengthen cyber resilience.
- Focus Sector: Banking, Financial Services, Insurance (BFSI) and Digital Payments Ecosystem.
- Key Findings:
- Cyber attackers are increasingly using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automate and scale sophisticated attacks.
- Identity theft, deepfakes, social engineering, and payment workflow manipulation are becoming more prevalent.
- AI-powered attacks are increasingly difficult to distinguish from legitimate user activity.
- The BFSI sector remains one of the most targeted sectors due to its critical role in the economy.
