Current Context: Hiroshima Day is observed on 6 August 2026 to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima during World War II and to promote global peace and nuclear disarmament.

2. RBI MONETARY POLICY AUGUST 2026
Current Context: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the August 2026 Monetary Policy after the 62nd meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) held from 3-5 August 2026.
KEY DECISIONS OF THE MPC
- Repo Rate: 5.25% (Unchanged).
- Policy Stance: Neutral.
- Decision taken unanimously by all MPC members.
CURRENT RBI POLICY RATES
- Repo Rate: 5.25%.
- Standing Deposit Facility (SDF): 5.00%.
- Marginal Standing Facility (MSF): 5.50%.
- Bank Rate: 5.50%.
ABOUT THE MONETARY POLICY COMMITTEE (MPC)
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is a statutory body responsible for determining India’s monetary policy, particularly the policy repo rate, to achieve the inflation target while supporting economic growth.
- It was established under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, through the Finance Act, 2016.
- Acceptable range: 2%-6%.
Composition (6 Members)
- RBI Governor – Chairperson.
- Deputy Governor (Monetary Policy).
- One RBI nominee.
- Three members appointed by the Central Government.
- Meets at least four times a year.
- Decisions are taken by majority vote, the Governor has a casting vote in case of a tie.

3. OPERATION TRISHUL
Current Context: Operation Trishul, a nationwide initiative to track and bring back wanted fugitives from abroad, has successfully returned 274 fugitives from 36 countries since 2019, strengthening India’s efforts against transnational crime.

- Operation Trishul is a coordinated initiative to trace, locate, and extradite/deport fugitive criminals hiding in foreign countries.
- It focuses on individuals accused of serious offences such as terrorism, organised crime, economic offences, drug trafficking, murder and other serious crimes.
- Agencies Involved:IB, CBI, RAW, state police, Interpol
- Methods:Satellite imagery, surveillance, digital footprints

4. NASHA MUKT YUVA FOR VIKSIT BHARAT SANKALP ABHIYAN
Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign to build a drug-free youth population and promote a healthy, addiction-free India as part of the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
- A nationwide awareness and community mobilisation campaign against drug abuse.
- Focuses on preventing substance abuse among children, adolescents, and youth.
- Promotes a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach involving educational institutions, families, civil society, and government agencies.

- Coverage:28,000+ locations, 125+ organisations

5. e-PRATYAROPAN DIGITAL PLATFORM
Current Context: Union Minister Anupriya Patel unveiled e-Pratyaropan Digital Platform on 16th Indian Organ Donation Day.

- e-Pratyaropan is a national digital platform developed to streamline the organ donation and transplantation process in India.
- It aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and coordination among hospitals, transplant authorities, donors, and recipients.

6. CHANDIPURA VIRUS (CHPV)
Current Context: A Chandipura Virus (CHPV) outbreak has been reported in Gujarat, where 22 children have died and 35 cases have tested positive out of 184 suspected cases, prompting intensified surveillance and vector control measures.
ABOUT CHANDIPURA VIRUS
- Chandipura Virus (CHPV) is a vector-borne virus that primarily affects children.
- It belongs to the Rhabdoviridae
- Genus: Vesiculovirus.
- First identified in 1965 from Chandipura village, Nagpur district, Maharashtra.
TRANSMISSION
- Transmitted mainly through the bite of sandflies (Phlebotomus species).
- Mosquitoes and ticks are also suspected to play a role in transmission.
- Human-to-human transmission has not been established.
Clinical Features:
- Causes Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (inflammation of brain)
- Rapid progression, can lead to multiple organ failure
- All confirmed cases in Gujarat outbreak: below 15 years of age

Current Context: Russia’s S8000 Banderol cruise missile is increasingly being used in the Russia–Ukraine conflict, significantly influencing the air war along Ukraine’s Black Sea coast.

- Banderol (S8000) is a Russian air-launched cruise missile.
- Developed for precision strikes against ground targets.
- Designed to be launched from helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
- Intended to attack high-value military infrastructure with high accuracy.
