1. HAMAS AGREES TO DISARM UNDER TRUMP’S BOARD OF PEACE PLAN

Current Context: U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Hamas has agreed in principle to a phased disarmament roadmap under the Board of Peace initiative, a U.S.-led mechanism aimed at ending the Gaza conflict.

ABOUT BOARD OF PEACE PLAN

  • The agreement remains conditional and faces significant implementation challenges, with Israel yet to formally endorse the latest arrangement and Hamas stating that disarmament depends on Israeli withdrawal and fulfillment of other commitments.
  • Chaired by President Donald Trump.
  • Intended to supervise the transition from armed conflict to civilian administration.
  • Works alongside an International Stabilization Force (ISF) proposed for Gaza.
  • Backed by a UN Security Council resolution recognizing the framework for Gaza’s transitional administration.

2. e-ZERO FIR SYSTEM

Current Context: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has expanded the e-Zero FIR System to 18 States and Union Territories for cyber financial fraud cases.

  • The system enables automatic registration of Zero FIRs for eligible cybercrime complaints, ensuring immediate police action without delays arising from jurisdictional issues.

ABOUT E-ZERO FIR SYSTEM

  • e-Zero FIR is a digital mechanism that automatically converts eligible cyber financial fraud complaints into a Zero FIR.
  • Developed by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
  • Integrated with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and the 1930 Cyber Helpline.
  • Initially launched as a pilot in Delhi in May 2025 and subsequently expanded to 18 States and Union Territories.
  • Applicable:Financial cybercrime complaints involving fraud above ₹10 lakh
  • Statutory Backing:Section 173 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023
  • How It Works:
  • Complaints of losses above ₹10 lakh automatically trigger a Zero FIR at e-Crime Police Station
  • Zero FIR routed to relevant territorial cybercrime police station
  • Victims must visit police station within 3 days for conversion to regular FIR

3. MOSPI TO REPLACE WPI WITH PPI FOR GDP DEFLATION

Current Context: The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has announced plans to replace the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) with the Producer Price Index (PPI) as the principal price deflator for estimating real Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

  • The move aims to align India’s national accounts with international best practices and improve the accuracy of GDP estimation.

4. PRADHAN MANTRI VIDYALAXMI SCHEME

  • The Pradhan Mantri Vidyalaxmi (PM-Vidyalaxmi) Scheme is a Central Sector Scheme that provides collateral-free and guarantor-free education loans to meritorious students admitted to Quality Higher Educational Institutions (QHEIs). It also offers credit guarantee and interest subvention benefits for eligible students.
  • Launch Date: 6 November 2024

5. HIMALAYAN CHANDRA TELESCOPE (HCT)

Current Context: The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) celebrated 25 years of successful scientific operations of the Himalayan Chandra Telescope (HCT), one of India’s premier optical telescopes located at the Indian Astronomical Observatory (IAO), Hanle, Ladakh.

  • Designed for deep-sea diving operations, submarine rescue support, underwater repairs, and salvage missions.
