- It is located in western Africa along the Atlantic Ocean.
- It is bordered by Guinea-Bissau and Senegal (north), Mali (northeast), Côte d’Ivoire (southeast), and Liberia and Sierra Leone (south).
- It is divided into four physical regions:
- Maritime (Lower) Guinea – coastal plain
- Fouta Djallon (Middle Guinea) – highlands and plateau
- Upper Guinea – savanna region
- Forest Guinea – dense forested southeast
People & Language
- Population is estimated at 13–15 million.
- French is the official language.
- Major indigenous languages include Pular (Fulani), Susu, and Maninka.

3. DELHI JAN VISHWAS (AMENDMENT OF PROVISIONS) BILL, 2026
Current Context: The Delhi Cabinet approved the Delhi Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026 to decriminalise minor offences and improve ease of doing business.
OBJECTIVES OF THE BILL
- To reduce unnecessary criminalisation of minor and procedural violations.
- To reduce burden on courts and improve administrative efficiency.
- To promote ease of living and ease of doing business in Delhi.
KEY PROVISIONS
- Criminal penalties for minor offences will be replaced with civil penalties and fines.
- A defined appellate mechanism will be introduced.
- Laws related to public health, safety and life will remain unaffected.

HEALTH
4. INDIA BANS ORAL NIMESULIDE ABOVE 100 MG
Current Context: The Union Health Ministry has banned all oral formulations of Nimesulide above 100 mg, citing safety concerns.
REASONS FOR THE BAN
- Higher doses pose a potential risk of liver toxicity.
- Safer alternatives are widely available.
- The decision was taken after consultation with the Drugs Technical Advisory Board.
ABOUT NIMESULIDE
- It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
- It is already banned for children below 12 years of age.
- It is prohibited for veterinary use in India.

5. PRALAY MISSILE
Current Context: Defence Research and Development Organization successfully conducted a salvo launch of two Pralay missiles from the Odisha coast on December 31, 2025.
KEY DETAILS
- Two missiles launched in quick succession from a single launcher.
- User evaluation trial confirmed accuracy and reliability.
- Test conducted at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur.
ABOUT PRALAY MISSILE
- It is an indigenously developed quasi-ballistic missile.
- It uses solid propellant and advanced guidance systems.
- Capable of carrying multiple warhead types.
DEVELOPMENT
- Developed by Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad.
- Supported by Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited.

6. PUNJAB DECLARES THREE ‘HOLY CITIES’
Current Context: The Punjab government granted Holy City status to Amritsar, Anandpur Sahib and Talwandi Sabo.
REASONS
- These cities host major Sikh Takhts.
- Akal Takht in Amritsar was established in 1606 by Guru Hargobind.
KEY FEATURES
- Ban on liquor, tobacco, cigarettes and meat.
- Enhanced transport facilities for pilgrims.

7. HARAPPAN SITE OF RAKHIGARHI
Current Context: The Union Government allocated ₹500 crore for the development of the Harappan site of Rakhigarhi.

- It is the largest Harappan site in the Indian subcontinent.
- Located in Hisar district, Haryana.
- Situated in the Ghaggar–Hakra river plain.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE
- First excavated by Amarendra Nath of the Archaeological Survey of India.
- Later excavations led by Prof. Vasant Shinde confirmed its vast scale.
