Current Context: Dr. Sai Gautam Gopalakrishnan, Associate Professor of Materials Engineering at IISc Bengaluru, has been awarded the Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award 2025 for his exceptional work in computational materials science.

3. INDIA’S FIRST DIGITAL MUSEUM OF TRIBAL FREEDOM FIGHTERS

Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first Digital Museum of Tribal Freedom Fighters at Nava Raipur (Atal Nagar), Chhattisgarh.

Name: Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Memorial and Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum
Type: India’s first fully digital museum dedicated to tribal heroes

Significance: Commemorates tribal warriors’ contributions to India’s freedom struggle.

4. KHANGCHENDZONGA NATIONAL PARK

Current Context: The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) rated Khangchendzonga National Park (Sikkim) as “Good” in its latest Global Review of Natural World Heritage Sites.

Location: Northern Sikkim; part of Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve (KBR)
UNESCO Status: India’s first “mixed” World Heritage Site (2016)

Major Peak: Mt. Khangchendzonga – 3rd highest in the world
Flora: Oak, fir, birch, maple, rhododendron

5. BALIYATRA FESTIVAL

Current Context: The President of India greeted citizens on the occasion of the historic Baliyatra Festival and Boita Bandana celebrations.

Meaning: “Voyage to Bali”
Observed On: Kartik Purnima each year

Historical Significance:
Commemorates 2,000-year-old maritime links between ancient Kalinga and Southeast Asia (Bali, Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Myanmar, Sri Lanka).

Celebrations:

  • Grand fairs, cultural shows, and food festivals
  • Boita Bandana ritual – women float paper or banana-leaf boats with lamps on the Mahanadi River

Significance: Symbol of India’s ancient maritime heritage and Odisha’s trade prowess.

6. 150 YEARS OF VANDE MATARAM CELEBRATION

Current Context: The Prime Minister of India will inaugurate the 150-year commemoration of India’s National Song “Vande Mataram” in New Delhi.
