About Mother Teresa:

• Born:Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu (1910)
• Went to India:1928
• Became Indian citizen:1948
• Mother Teresa died on 5 September 1997 in Kolkata, India.
• She founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950.
• She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work.
• She was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 1980.

2. TEACHERS’ DAY 2026

Current Context: Teachers’ Day is celebrated on 5 September to honour educators and commemorate Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary.

ABOUT TEACHERS’ DAY

• Occasion: Birth anniversary of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, born on 5 September 1888 at Tiruttani, Tamil Nadu.
• First celebrated in India: 1962
• It is distinct from World Teachers’ Day, which is observed internationally on 5 October under the auspices of UNESCO.

4. DISTRICTS AS EXPORT HUBS INITIATIVE

Current Context: The Districts as Export Hubs (DEH) initiative represents a shift in India’s export strategy towards identifying the export potential of every district, developing district-specific products, and connecting local producers with international markets.

ABOUT THE INITIATIVE

• Ministry: Ministry of Commerce and Industry
• Nodal Department: Department of Commerce, implemented primarily through the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
• Launched: August 2019
• Core idea: Identify products and services with export potential at the district level, address bottlenecks and develop districts as export hubs.
• District Export Promotion Committees (DEPCs) have been constituted to work at the district level, while State Export Promotion Committees (SEPCs) coordinate efforts at the state level. As of March 2026, these mechanisms had been constituted in all 36 States/UTs.

5. LAHORE NAMED SCO TOURISM AND CULTURAL CAPITAL

• Pakistan assumed the SCO chairmanship for 2026-27 after Kyrgyzstan’s 2025-26 chairmanship.
• Pakistan’s theme for the chairmanship is “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity.”

6. RAJNATH SINGH UNVEILS RAKSHA DEFENCE DIPLOMACY DOCUMENT

Current Context: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh released the ‘RAKSHA’ document on defence diplomacy in New Delhi, providing a 10-year roadmap for strengthening India’s global defence partnerships and strategic engagement.

ABOUT RAKSHA FRAMEWORK

• Prepared by: Ministry of Defence
• The document seeks to align India’s national security objectives with proactive international defence cooperation.
• It marks a shift towards a more proactive and structured approach to defence diplomacy, with emphasis on long-term partnerships, capacity building, indigenous defence exports and maritime security.

7. ISRO LAUNCHES GSLV-F17 WITH EOS-05 SATELLITE

Current Context: ISRO launched GSLV-F17 on 4 September 2026 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.

ABOUT THE MISSION

• Satellite type: Earth Observation Satellite
• Orbit achieved: Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (Sub-GTO). Approximate geosynchronous altitude: 35,786 km
• GSLV-F17: It is the 19th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV).
• EOS-05
• EOS-05 is an advanced Earth observation spacecraft developed by ISRO.
• It is India’s first-ever imaging satellite from a geosynchronous orbit, making this mission particularly significant for India’s Earth-observation capabilities.
• The satellite is intended to provide high-quality Earth imaging and near-real-time Earth observation capabilities.
• Its geosynchronous placement provides a different observation capability compared with conventional low Earth orbit Earth-observation satellites.

GSLV-F17

• GSLV stands for Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle.
• GSLV is designed primarily to place heavier satellites into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) and related high-energy orbits.
• The successful mission strengthens India’s capability to launch advanced Earth-observation payloads into high-energy orbits.

8. AVM SHAKTI SHARMA – FIRST NON-MEDICAL WOMAN TWO-STAR OFFICER

Current Context: Air Vice Marshal Shakti Sharma became the first non-medical woman officer in Indian Defence Forces to attain two-star rank.

ABOUT THE ACHIEVEMENT

• Rank:Air Vice Marshal (Two-Star)
• Commissioned:1994 (IAF Education Branch)
• First woman officer from Tri-Services to command a Sainik School (Kapurthala)
