1. WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY 2026
Current Context: World Youth Skills Day is observed on 15 July.
- In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution, proclaiming 15 July as World Youth Skills Day.
- The first observance was held on 15 July 2015.
- The day was established to recognize the strategic importance of equipping youth with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship
- Theme 2026:“Skills for a Shared Future”

2. NABARD LAUNCHES GRAMODYAM FOR RURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Current Context: The NABARD, in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), has launched Gramodyam on its 45th Foundation Day.
ABOUT GRAMODYAM
- Gramodyam is a digital-first Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) to strengthen India’s rural enterprise ecosystem.
- The programme aims to create 4,000 rural enterprises over the next three years through skill development, mentorship, credit facilitation, and market linkages.
- It follows a digital-first hybrid model across all States and Union Territories, combining online learning with on-ground mentoring and support.
- The programme focuses on nurturing first-generation rural entrepreneurs, especially youth, women, farmers, artisans, and members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
- End-to-end entrepreneurial support from idea generation to enterprise establishment.

3. LYMPHATIC FILARIASIS
Current Context: West Bengal Health Department started Mass Drug Administration (MDA) drive against filariasis, aiming to eliminate the disease by 2030.
ABOUT LYMPHATIC FILARIASIS
- Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), commonly known as Elephantiasis, is a parasitic disease caused by filarial worms that infect the lymphatic system.
- The disease leads to abnormal enlargement of body parts due to impaired lymphatic drainage.
- It is one of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).
- Type:Parasitic infection, neglected tropical disease
- Caused by:Nematodes (roundworms) of family Filariodidea
Transmission:
- Vector-borne disease transmitted by female Culex mosquito
- Requires repeated mosquito bites over several months/years
Symptoms:
- Majority of infections are asymptomatic
- Chronic conditions: Lymphoedema (tissue swelling), Elephantiasis (skin/tissue thickening), Hydrocele (scrotal swelling)

4. BIS INTRODUCES INDIA’S FIRST MANGROVE RESTORATION STANDARDS
Current Context: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is introducing India’s first Indian Standard for Mangrove Ecosystem Restoration, titled “Restoration of Mangrove Ecosystem – Guidelines.”
ABOUT THE STANDARD
- The draft standard, released for public consultation in March 2026, aims to establish a scientifically validated framework for restoring degraded mangrove ecosystems across the country.
- Developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) through the technical working group EED 06: WG 02, constituted in 2023.
- The standard provides scientific, ecological, and community-based guidelines for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating mangrove restoration projects.
Key Recommendations:
- Use cloth/biodegradable bags instead of polythene packets for planting
- Link restoration with livelihood options (fruit-bearing trees)
About Mangroves:
- Salt-tolerant coastal forests
- Grow in intertidal zones, estuaries, deltas, sheltered shorelines
- Found in: Sundarbans, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, island territories

5. IMAT-05 TEST FOR GAGANYAAN
Current Context: ISRO successfully executed the fifth Integrated Main Parachute Airdrop Test (IMAT-05) at ADRDE drop zone in Sheopur.
ABOUT IMAT-05 TEST
- It marked a major milestone toward the first uncrewed Gaganyaan (G1) mission.
- The test validated the main parachute system under the maximum expected load conditions during crew module descent.
- The test verifies the structural integrity, deployment sequence, and performance of the parachute system under realistic flight conditions.
- Developed by:ISRO and DRDO (ADRDE)
- Airdrop Altitude:5 km
- Aircraft:IAF IL-76 heavy transport aircraft
Significance:
- Tested parachute at maximum aerodynamic loads
- Validated structural safety for G1 uncrewed demonstration flight
- Ensures reliable crew-capsule deceleration and safety

6. TYPHOON BAVI
Current Context: Typhoon Bavi hit Japan’s Sakishima Islands and Taiwan, tracking toward eastern China.
ABOUT TYPHOON BAVI
- Typhoon Bavi was one of the strongest tropical cyclones of the 2026 Pacific typhoon season, making landfall in eastern China after affecting the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Taiwan, Japan’s Ryukyu Islands, and the Philippines.
- Typhoon Bavi is the third typhoon and second violent typhoon of the 2026 Pacific typhoon season.
- It was known as “Inday” in the Philippines.
- At its peak, Bavi reached Super Typhoon intensity, equivalent to a Category 5 hurricane, with sustained winds of around 280 km/h (175-180 mph).
WHAT IS A TYPHOON?
- A typhoon is a mature tropical cyclone that forms over the Northwest Pacific Ocean.
- It is the same weather phenomenon as a hurricane or cyclone; only the regional name differs.
