4. HANOI CONVENTION

Current Context: 72 nations signed a landmark UN Convention against Cybercrime treaty in Hanoi.

ABOUT CONVENTION

• Aim: Provide a legislative framework to strengthen international cooperation against cybercrime.
• Establishes the first universal framework for investigation & prosecution of cybercrime.
• Legally binding; adopted in 2024 after 5 years of negotiations.
• Enters into force 90 days after 40th ratification.

5. BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF RANI LAKSHMIBAI

Current Context: The Prime Minister paid tribute on her birth anniversary.

ABOUT RANI LAKSHMIBAI

• Also known as Manikarnika, queen of Jhansi.
• Led resistance during the 1857 Revolt.
• Doctrine of Lapse was used to reject her adopted son Damodar Rao’s claim.
• INA named its women’s regiment after her.

6. RATANMAHAL WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Current Context: A wild tiger has permanently settled in Gujarat’s Ratanmahal WLS for the first time in decades — staying for nine continuous months.

ABOUT

• Location: Dahod district, Central Gujarat, along the Gujarat–Madhya Pradesh border.
• Declared a Wildlife Sanctuary: March 1982.
• Area: 65 sq km of reserve forest.
• Dense sloth bear population — highest in Gujarat.
• Milestone: Gujarat becomes the only state hosting all three big cats — Asiatic lion, Indian leopard, and tiger.

7. KODAIKANAL SOLAR OBSERVATORY (KoSO)

Current Context: ARIES, IIA & global collaborators reconstructed 100+ years of Sun’s polar magnetic history using KoSO archival images.

• One of India’s oldest solar observatories with 120+ years of continuous observations.
• Location: Palani Hills, Tamil Nadu.
• Established: 1899.
• Ca II K solar imaging began in 1904 — among the world’s longest solar archives.
