Celebrated  on 11 February

Purpose: To promote safe, responsible, and positive use of digital technology and to protect children and young people from online risks

4. ASIAN SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP

Current Context : Indian shooter Manu Bhaker, an Olympic double bronze medallist, won the silver medal in the women’s 25m pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championship, narrowly missing gold after a dramatic shoot-off.

5. SWAVALAMBINI SCHEME

Current Context : The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship informed Parliament about the Swavalambini Scheme, aimed at promoting women entrepreneurship.

ABOUT SWAVALAMBINI SCHEME

  • Type: Women Entrepreneurship Programme
  • Objective: Empower young women to start and sustain businesses
  • Implementing Agencies:
  • National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), Noida
  • Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

  • Target Group: 1,200 female students from HEIs and Universities
  • Stage 1 – Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP):
  • Introductory exposure to entrepreneurship
  • Stage 2 – Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP):
  • 600 selected participants
  • Covers finance, market linkages, compliance, skilling, and networking
  • Mentorship: 21 weeks of handholding support
  • Support Framework:
  • MSDE: Monitoring and supervision
  • NITI Aayog: Mentorship, seed funding, Award To Reward (ATR) initiative

6. KIMBERLEY PROCESS (KP)

Current Context : India has assumed the Chair of the Kimberley Process for 2026.

ABOUT KIMBERLEY PROCESS

  • Global coalition of governments, civil society, and diamond industry
  • Objective: Eliminate trade in conflict diamonds
  • Conflict diamonds finance rebel movements against legitimate governments
  • Operates under UN Security Council Resolution 1459

KEY FEATURES

  • Regulates international trade in rough diamonds
  • Participants: 60 (representing 86 countries, EU as single participant)
  • Accounts for over 99% of global rough diamond trade
  • Meets twice a year (Intersessional & Plenary)
  • Chairmanship rotates annually

KIMBERLEY PROCESS CERTIFICATION SCHEME (KPCS)

  • Prevents conflict diamond trade
  • Mandatory KP certificate for every rough diamond shipment
  • Transported in tamper-resistant containers
  • India’s Role:
    • Active participant since 2003
    • Nodal Ministry: Department of Commerce
    • Implementing Authority: Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)
