2. GLOBAL BURDEN OF DISEASE (GBD) REPORT
Current Context: The latest Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Report was launched at the World Health Summit in Berlin and published in The Lancet, highlighting that Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) now account for nearly two-thirds of global deaths and illnesses.

Key Findings:

NCDs such as ischaemic heart disease, stroke, and diabetes are the leading causes of death globally.

In India (2023), ischaemic heart disease recorded the highest mortality rate (ASMR 127.82 per lakh).

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and stroke followed with ASMR of 99.25 and 92.88 per lakh, respectively.

Trend: India’s disease burden is shifting from communicable to non-communicable causes.
3. WMO GREENHOUSE GAS BULLETIN 2024
Current Context: According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Greenhouse Gas Bulletin, global carbon dioxide concentration reached 423.9 ppm in 2024 — the highest ever recorded.
