1. INDIA REJECTS INDUS WATERS ARBITRATION AWARD
Current Context: On 31 August 2026, the Court of Arbitration constituted under the Indus Waters Treaty issued an award concerning India’s decision to place the treaty in abeyance, along with an order on interim measures concerning the Ratle Hydroelectric Plant in Jammu and Kashmir.
- The Court held that the Indus Waters Treaty, 1960 remains in force and that India’s stated grounds did not legally justify its suspension or termination.
- India rejected the award, calling the Court “illegally constituted” and stating that it has no jurisdiction over India’s sovereign decisions.
ABOUT INDUS WATERS TREATY
- Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) was signed between India and Pakistan on 19 September 1960.
- It was brokered with the assistance of the World Bank.
- Signatories: Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistani President Ayub Khan.
- Location: Karachi, Pakistan.
- The treaty governs the utilisation and sharing of the waters of the Indus River system.
- It divides the six major rivers into Eastern Rivers and Western Rivers.
- EASTERN RIVERS → INDIA: Ravi, Beas and Sutlej
- India has been given exclusive use of the waters of the Eastern Rivers, subject to certain treaty provisions.
- WESTERN RIVERS → PAKISTAN: Indus, Jhelum and Chenab

2. INTEGRATED FERTILIZER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (iFMS)
Current Context: The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has announced a new phase of the Integrated Fertilizer Management System (iFMS), with greater emphasis on digitalisation, real-time monitoring, data integration and transparent fertilizer distribution.

- Nature: Digital platform for monitoring and managing the fertilizer supply chain.
- It provides an integrated system to monitor fertilizer movement from production/import to distribution and retail sale.

3. LEGAL METROLOGY (INDIAN STANDARD TIME) RULES, 2026
Current Context: Union government notified Legal Metrology (IST) Rules, 2026. The Rules establish Indian Standard Time (IST) as the single reference time for legal, administrative, commercial, financial, transport and other official purposes across India.

- Legal basis: Legal Metrology Act, 2009
- Core principle: One Nation, One Time

WHAT IS OZONATION?
- Ozonation is a water-treatment process in which ozone (O₃) is introduced into water for disinfection and oxidation.
- Ozone is a powerful oxidising agent.
- It can destroy or inactivate many bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms.
- It can also help reduce certain taste- and odour-causing compounds.

9. DWAT MAHADEV – HIGH-ALTITUDE HIMALAYAN SHRINE
Current Context: Dwat Mahadev temple in Chamba is a secluded, high-altitude Himalayan shrine shaped by ancient folklore.

- Location:Sidhkund area, Chamba district
- Altitude:~2,300 metres
- Distance from Chamba:~30 km
ARCHITECTURE
- The temple is constructed primarily of stone, reflecting traditional Himalayan temple architecture.
- It has a distinctive pyramidal shikhara over the sanctum.
- A small stone-pillared porch leads towards the sanctum.
- The sanctum houses a Shiva Lingam.
- The temple blends closely with its surrounding deodar forest and mountain landscape.
