Current Context: India has launched its first barrier-free tolling system on the Delhi-Mumbai National Highway (NH-48) at Chorayasi Toll Plaza on Surat-Bharuch stretch in Gujarat.

• Full Form:Multi-Lane Free Flow system
• Technologies Used:Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) + FASTag
• Key Benefits:
  • Eliminates queues and reduces travel time
  • Lowers fuel consumption and vehicular emissions

• Violation Handling:Electronic notices (e-notices), penalties include suspension of FASTag services

Current Context: Karnataka has launched India’s first dedicated digital grievance redressal mechanism for gig workers.

• Language:Ru = cane/rattan, Soam = bridge (Lepcha language)
• Materials Used:Bamboo, cane, wood (locally available)
• Structural Features:
  • Two parallel canes called ‘soamgyang’ tied to trees at both ends
  • Swinging cane loops called ‘ahool’
  • Bamboos (‘soamgur’) used for deck
  • Can be 100 metres long, 2-3 people can cross at a time

10. INDIAN SKIMMER CONSERVATIONIST WINS WHITLEY AWARD 2026

Current Context: Indian conservationist Parveen Shaikh has been honoured with the Whitley Award 2026 for her efforts to protect the endangered Indian skimmer.
