  • Established by: Association International du Film d’Animation (ASIFA)

  • Year of Establishment: 2002

  • Affiliation: ASIFA is a UNESCO member organisation.

  • Objective: To honour the creativity and innovation of animators and to foster appreciation for animation as an art form across cultures.

  • Significance:

    • The date commemorates the first public performance of projected moving images by Charles-Émile Reynaud in Paris (1892) using his Théâtre Optique.

2. CHAIRPERSON OF WIPO’S ADVISORY BOARD OF JUDGES

Current Context: Justice Prathiba M. Singh of the Delhi High Court has been appointed as the Chairperson of the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Advisory Board of Judges for the 2025–2027 term.

3. 10TH CENTURY GAJALAKSHMI SCULPTURE DISCOVERED IN GOA

Current Context: A rare 10th-century Gajalakshmi sculpture was discovered in the Valvanti River near Parye village, Sattari Taluk, Goa, by Adima Kala Trust researcher T. Murugeshi.

ABOUT THE SCULPTURE

  • Depiction: Goddess Lakshmi seated on a lotus pedestal with four hands.

  • Iconography:

    • Holds lotus buds in upper hands.

    • Wears Makarakundalas (ear ornaments) and a three-tiered Karanda Mukuta (crown).

    • Flanked by two elephants holding sacred kalashas.

    • Features Gandaberunda, a mythical bird, at the pedestal base.

5. VICE-CHAIRPERSON OF COP10 BUREAU ON ANTI-DOPING IN SPORTS

Current Context: India has been re-elected as Vice-Chairperson of the COP10 Bureau to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, held at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris (20–22 October 2025).

6. NINGOL CHAKOUBA FESTIVAL CELEBRATED IN MANIPUR

Current Context: Manipur celebrated Ningol Chakouba, a traditional festival symbolising the bond between married women and their brothers, on the second day of the Hiyangei month of the Meitei calendar.

    • Ningol – Married women
